L’Alba
L'Alba, one of the main current references in popular music on the island of Corsica, likes to say that the Corsican musical tradition is not fixed but, on the contrary, it is in evolution, in motion. Thus, in his new album, À Principiu, the music of Alba, timeless and open to the world, takes an increasingly Mediterranean orientation. Alba gives his work a prominent place in the Corsican music scene, preserving the heritage of polyphonic voices, but in this new work the group incorporates new influences with a palette of sounds taken from cultures of regions of the world such as North Africa, Italy, Greece, Portugal...Alba’s creative approach is guided by her willingness to accompany her songs with original arrangements of Mediterranean nuances, although they remain faithful to the ancestral cultural tradition. This willingness to work in this direction stems from the observation of the proximity of the vocal identities of the peoples of the Mediterranean basin, especially with regard to melisms, and more broadly to aesthetics.
