Andrea Motis Trio

In 2019 the still very young  Andrea Motis  was one of the most awaited dishes of that year’s Alternatilla Jazz, a regular visitor, who came to present her latest album,  Do outro lado do azul of Brazilian essence spiced with good school jazz. The singer, trumpeter and jazz composer, only 25 years old and already with four studio albums and another four live albums released, came with her usual popular spread (all the paper sold out days before), and also with the usual rumours that have been levelled at her since she entered public musical life: that she doesn’t listen to jazz, that she only plays the trumpet just enough, and some other blablablabla.

And then he started to sing. And everybody shut up: those on one side and those on the other, those here and those in the middle, those over there and those on the sides. But then he started to play the trumpet. And then everyone, those here, those there….

There are few dictionaries of synonyms to describe the explosion of musicality that added a notch of historical evening to the stones of the Principal. Surely Motis and his teacher and comrade Joan Chamorro took good note of how well this melodic Brazilian melancholy, the saudade to which so much has been sung in that country, fitted into the crystalline and diaphanous voice of the interpreter. On this occasion they will sell in trio format with Josep Traver on guitar, and not with a nine-piece band as on their previous visit. And they are sure to give the audience a chance to hear and be captivated by their Carioca cadences.
