Concert:
Roger Mas
Some voices do not simply sing: they summon a landscape. Roger Mas has one of
those deep, ancient, free voices that seem to carry an entire geography within them:
earth, memory, language, mystery, irony, beauty and a very particular way of looking
at the world.
A singer-songwriter, musician and creator of an unmistakable universe of his own,
Roger Mas has built, over the past few decades, one of the most singular and
recognisable bodies of work in Catalan song. His music brings together popular roots,
poetry, Mediterranean song, folk, spirituality, humour, tradition and a contemporary
sensibility that never settles for simply repeating familiar formulas. His songs seem to
come from far away, yet they breathe fully in the present.
On 5 July, Roger Mas will come to SONSDENIT in trio format, joined by Xavier Guitó on
keyboards and Arcadi Marcet on double bass, with a repertoire prepared especially
for his reunion with the Mallorcan audience. The set will include some of the most
emblematic songs from his extensive discography, alongside pieces by other authors
and poets who form part of his musical and literary imagination.
It will be a chance to hear Roger Mas from a place of rare closeness: the voice in the
foreground, the words breathing calmly, and a trio able to envelop each song without
ever obscuring its essential pulse. The format opens a space of nuance, depth and
delicacy, where the songs can appear bare and, at the same time, full of life.
In a festival that understands music as a dialogue with places, Roger Mas’s presence
at Es Calvari feels like a natural encounter. His music, made of inner height, roots and
horizon, will find in Pollença a setting able to accompany it without imposing itself: a
place where each word can rise, linger and remain suspended in the night.
📍The concert will take place at Es Calvari, in Pollença, one of the town’s most
emblematic and recognisable sites. Set at the top of its historic stairway, it is one of
those places where the journey to the concert already becomes part of the experience:
climbing slowly, leaving the noise behind, reaching the top and finding music, stone,
air and an open view over the landscape.
At SONSDENIT, venues are never just a setting. At Es Calvari, that idea becomes
especially clear: the height, the architecture, the memory of the place and the views
turn the concert into something more than a performance. For Roger Mas, with his
voice of earth and sky, this will be a deeply fitting stage: a place where song can
resonate with the quiet intensity of things that seem to be exactly where they
belong.
