Concert:

Omara Portuondo

Sons de Nit, in conjunction with Fonart and Fila U at Palma’s Teatre Principal, presents Omara Portuondo.

The Buena Vista Social Club diva, the “bride of feeling” – as she is called in Cuba – the great lady and living legend of Cuban music, will celebrate her 91 years of life and music on the stage of Palma’s Teatre Principal. This is not the first time she has visited the island, but this time she will do so with a young line-up of some of the best international talents and figures of the new generation of Cuban jazz musicians.

The concert will feature musical direction by the prestigious pianist Roberto Fonseca, with whom Omara has great chemistry and complicity onstage. Fonseca, whose international reputation continues to grow, has accompanied the singer in recent months as artistic director of her “El último Beso” tour. Together, they have toured stages on three continents.

With this very special concert, Sons de Nit, hand in hand with Fonart, always receptive to cooperation with other cultural agents, establishes synergies with two other festivals with which it shares affinities and offers itself as a framework for the presentation of the next musical exchange to be developed by the cultural association Alternatilla, in the fifth edition of its jazz festival with the prestigious Cuban festival Jazz Plaza in its 36th edition, the largest musical event in Cuba. A bridge for the musical twinning between two islands that starts with this presentation to be produced by Sons de Nit.
