Els Blauets de Lluc & Marco Mezquida Trio
There are concerts that are scheduled. And then there are concerts that,
somehow, seem to have been waiting for us.
On 6 June, SONSDENIT will experience one of those evenings that are not simply there
to fill a date in the calendar, but to remain resonating in the memory. Marco Mezquida will arrive at the Santuari de Lluc with his trio —alongside Martín Meléndez and Aleix
Tobias— to shape a truly unprecedented encounter: a creation conceived especially
for this place and for this occasion, with the special participation of the Blauets de
Lluc.
Pianist, composer, improviser and one of the freest, brightest and most magnetic
personalities in music today, Marco Mezquida has spent years building a language of
his own: open, deeply expressive and impossible to confine to a single label. His music
holds lyricism, risk, Mediterranean roots, playfulness, delicacy, rhythmic impulse and a
rare ability to turn each concert into something alive, shifting and breathing.
His trio, with Martín Meléndez on cello and Aleix Tobias on multi-layered percussion,
expands that universe even further: making it tactile, organic and porous, filled with
air and earth at once.
But this time there will be something more. Or rather, more voices. Joining that
universe will be the Blauets de Lluc: voices steeped in history and emotion,
inseparable from this place, from its memory and from its deepest pulse.
For this occasion, Marco has imagined a specific repertoire, with arrangements created
expressly for this encounter: original music and his own compositions will sit alongside
traditional music from the Balearic Islands and pieces drawn from the Blauets’
repertoire. This is not simply about joining forces or crossing formats, but about
listening to what can happen when two different worlds —and yet two worlds joined by
a shared sensibility— truly meet.
A concert that is unrepeatable, or almost: one of those events that happens once, and
for that very reason deserves to be lived with every sense fully awake.
📍And if music will be one of the protagonists, so too will be the place itself. The
Santuari de Lluc, in the very heart of the Serra de Tramuntana, will host this evening
in the Pati de l’Escolania, home of the Blauets, with the landscape of the Serra
present as a living frame. There could be no more beautiful, or more truthful,
backdrop.
The concert will begin at 8.00 pm, while there is still generous natural light, so that
the mountain, the sky and the stone can breathe within the musical experience
itself. This decision also responds to #petjades, SONSDENIT’s label for proposals
especially committed to sustainability: reducing energy impact while allowing the
audience to fully inhabit the atmosphere of the place, bathed in the natural light of
the Tramuntana.
Perhaps that is, in the end, what will happen in Santuari de Lluc: that for a moment
everything will fall into place. The piano, the voices, the percussion, the cello, the
stone, the light, the mountain. And SONSDENIT will remind us that a concert can also
be a way of belonging.
