Debon canta Suau
Some encounters seem to be born from a simple yet profound intuition: that
poetry does not belong only on the page, and that music can be a way of reading with
the body, opening words and allowing them to breathe differently.
Debon canta Suau begins from that place: an artistic proposal that brings poetry
and music together through the work of Mallorcan poet Pere Suau, with original piano
music composed by Antoni Bujosa and the voice of Pau Debon, singer of Antònia
Font and one of the most iconic voices in Catalan-language music.
The performance traces a journey through different books and moments in Pere Suau’s
literary career, combining poems recited by the poet himself, poems sung by Pau
Debon, instrumental piano pieces and a moment in which Suau’s spoken voice and Debon’s sung voice meet within the same breath. The entire repertoire is built from
original compositions by Antoni Bujosa, conceived not as decorative accompaniment,
but as a way of listening to poetry from within.
The result is a work of great delicacy and depth, where poetic language, piano and
voice create a shared territory. Pere Suau’s writing —widely awarded and marked by a
sensitivity rooted in memory, body, image and emotion— finds a new sonic life here.
Antoni Bujosa, a pianist and composer with a solid artistic path, creates a musical
landscape that holds, illuminates and expands the poems. And Pau Debon brings that
instantly recognisable, warm and magnetic voice, able to turn each verse into song
without stripping it of its mystery.
At SONSDENIT, Debon canta Suau will be an invitation to listen closely. A concertrecital, or perhaps something harder to classify: a conversation between poetry and
music, between author, composer and performer, between the spoken word, the sung
word and the silence that surrounds them.
An intimate, deeply Mallorcan and profoundly sensitive proposal, reminding us that
culture also happens in those moments when a voice pauses over a verse and,
suddenly, everything seems to be heard more clearly.
📍The concert will take place at Raixa, in the municipality of Bunyola, one of those
places where heritage, landscape and memory seem to breathe together. Set at the
foot of the Serra de Tramuntana, this historic Mallorcan estate, with its gardens, stone
walls and stately architecture, offers an especially sensitive setting for a proposal born
from the dialogue between poetry, piano and voice.
At SONSDENIT, spaces are never just scenery. At Raixa, that idea takes on a
particular beauty: the words of Pere Suau, Antoni Bujosa’s original music and Pau
Debon’s voice will find a place where listening can become slower, closer and more
attentive. A space where poetry can sound among stone, garden and mountain;
where the piano can open a landscape; and where each verse can remain
suspended in the air with the delicacy of things that need silence in order to reach
deeper.
